What does the PTFA do?

The PTFA meet regularly to plan and facilitate activities for children at the Folkestone Primary and their families, in order to raise additional funds for the school to provide additional resources which benefit all of the children.

In the past year we have arranged the following events:

Spooky Disco (Yr 3 – Yr6) Tea with Santa (Yr R – Yr2)

Easter Bingo Summer Fair

Christmas Craft Event Break the rules day

Spending the money:

Anyone at the school (parents and teachers) can request funding from the PTFA and requests are considered at the main PTFA meeting each term. To meet the criteria for funding, requests need to answer a few simple questions:

  • Does it provide enhanced educational value for the children?

  • How many of the children at the school will benefit?

If anyone would like to submit a funding request form please contact a member of the PTFA or pop into the office in reception.

In the past the PTFA have funded Year R Starter bags, Defibrillator, visiting theatre productions, a replacement wooden playhouse, Maths games for Yr R, Science week workshops and Year 6 leaver books and disco.

As a parent, carer or staff member of the school, you are automatically considered to be a valuable member of the PTFA family here at Folkestone Primary. Your level of involvement is entirely up to you.

We need:

1. Organisation and planning – Each event requires a great deal of work behind the scenes to put everything together. You may not be able to help on the day but there is plenty to do in the lead up. For example: creating posters, shopping for supplies, collecting raffle prizes and many other little jobs.

2, Volunteering at events – There are always lots of small jobs during events and we always need plenty of assistance. Help doesn’t need to be just from parents. We welcome grandparents, aunts and uncles and anyone willing to lend a hand.

3. PTFA Meetings – We always love to have new faces and new perspectives at our meetings and feel that it is important for parents across the school to be represented when we gather to make decisions. We understand that not everyone is available to attend the meetings. If you have any ideas or anything you would like to be discussed at the meeting, you can contact us via our email address. We can also add you to the distribution list for the meeting minutes if you send us a request.

4. Donations – Donations are a really important part of our fundraising and it does not necessarily involve parents paying out money. Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Matched Funding: An increasing number of large companies operate a match funding scheme whereby they “match” charity fundraising undertaken by their employees. Generally speaking these companies are banks and building societies, insurance companies, supermarkets, phone companies and car manufacturers. Please check with your employer and contact us if you can help.

  • Raffle Prizes: We usually hold a raffle to coincide with our Easter and Summer events and we are always in need of prizes. If you (or your employer) are able to offer up any kind of raffle prizes, we would love to hear from you.

5. Cash-back schemes – If you shop online, please consider navigating to your usual shopping site via Easy Fundraising. This site gives the PTFA cash-back on all of your purchases.
