Our social action plan focuses on three areas: Global Citizenship, Transport and Litter.
Throughout the school year we take part in activities covering these three areas.
Climate Change will affect communities in different ways. Our Global Citizenship topic encourages young people to take an active role in their local community and work together to make our planet more peaceful, sustainable, and fair! In 2015, 17 Sustainable Development Goals for people and for planet were adopted by all UN member states. Our school will help support the goals through celebrating diversity, pupil-planned fundraising for environmental charities, or making changes to the products our community buy!
A generation ago 70% of primary school children walked to school, now it’s less than half! Our pupils know that promoting sustainable transport is a great way to cut carbon and protect our planet. Our Eco-Committees will work on this topic that will include: having new storage spaces installed, organising walk to school weeks, and implementing park ‘n’ stride, walking bus, or other similar schemes!
Litter harms wildlife, costs millions to clear, and, frankly, looks terrible! Worst of all, litter attracts litter. If an area is already littered, then people are more likely to drop more litter! Our Litter topic will encourage our young people to claim ownership over their local community and take immediate action to improve it through litter-picking, awareness campaigns, or rallying together for a community event like the Great Big School Clean.
